Mobility Advisory Task Force
The City of Roanoke has a Mobility Advisory Team comprised of members representing various agencies and departments related to parking and transportation. The goal of the team is to guide an overall strategy for a complete transportation system that provides options, accommodates growth, and improves how people, live, work, and play. Parking issues are a crucial part of urban (city) mobility and carry an increasing amount of weight for the economic development of and attractiveness of cities. The Team is comprised of members from agencies such as Downtown Roanoke, Inc., the Roanoke Valley Allegheny Regional Commission, Ride Solutions, Valley Metro, PARK Roanoke, City Transportation and City Parking Services, and Private Parking Providers among others. The Team meets quarterly to discuss and evaluate approaches to parking, review opportunities to improve connectivity and corridor linkages, as well as for developing strategies for the business community to participate in mobility programming along with factoring in linkages to various modes of public transportation. One of the main principles of this work is the belief that parking and transportation guides economic development, successes, sustainable business practices, and makes the City of Roanoke a destination for shoppers, visitors, residents, business owners, and employers.
